A Brief Summary

The declaration was signed in 1848 by 68 women and 32 men, 100 out of some 300 attendees at the first women's rights convention.  The convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York.  The primary author of the declaration was Elizabeth Cady Stanton.  It was based on the Declaration of Independence.  Frederick Douglass attended the convention and supported the Declaration.  He also helped pass the resolutions put forward.  He wrote in his North Star publication that the document was the "grand basis for attaining the civil, social, political, and religious rights of women."​
